Welcome Back

Dear Wesley families,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at Wesley International Academy! This year will be filled with an extensive curriculum that will expand your child's linguistic abilities, cultural awareness and imagination. We hope that you are as excited about the upcoming academic year as we are.
In K-2, all students will have Chinese class with their homeroom class. For 3rd-8th grades students will be placed in Chinese class by proficiency level. New students will have an intensive introduction to Chinese and students that have taken Chinese will build on what has been learned in past years. For every student new and old, our study will grow more challenging as we approach the end of the year, and school-wide assessments, DAKAO, will be conducted twice a year as benchmark to measure student’s learning gains.
At WIA we believe that children learn best when they are provided the opportunity to experience things "hands-on." Students learn more from actually doing than just seeing and hearing. This year the Chinese team will construct classrooms with as many auditory, visual, and kinesthetic opportunities throughout the year as possible.
Research has proven that children have higher grades, more positive behavior, and more enthusiastic attitudes when their parents are involved in their education. We need your support to ensure a successful year. We feel that good communication between teachers and parents is vital. We will provide families with at home resources that you can find on the Chinese blog, in your child’s Chinese folder and in frequent communication from our department. We are also available for additional questions you might have throughout the year. The best method of communication for us is email.
Our goal is to help all students achieve their best. Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child!
Sincerely,
The Wesley Chinese Team
