Dragon Boat Festival

Since the fall of 2008, WIA has participated in the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival held at Lake Lanier’s Canoe and Kayak Club. Each year our Wesley team is made up of parents and teachers. Some families choose to campout the night before so that they may experience the blessing of the boats by the Buddhist monks. The Wesley turnout grows each year. Our enthusiastic fan club cheering on our team always impresses the crowd and the organizers of the event.

Chinese New Year

Each Chinese New Year, we provide our students with an in-house program. All grade levels participate in the show to celebrate the lunar new year. We have invited several guests over the years to perform. A few of our shows have included the traditional arts of lion dance, Chinese minority group dances, ribbon dances, puppet shows and martial arts. The new year is celebrated around Wesley in each of the classrooms by learning songs, cooking, crafts, the sharing of folktales, and discussions of the celebration in countries across the world as well.

China Night

Starting in 2012, WIA’s Chinese department has held a China Night each spring for our parents and community. Our 2012 China Night was held with the help of Maynard Jackson High School by lending us their auditorium. During each annual China Night, students from kindergarten to 8th grade have an opportunity to apply their knowledge of Chinese culture and language into the format of songs, dance, drama and musical instrument during this annual Chinese production.
